I feel so sorry for all you unfortunate Northern Hemisphere-dwellers... summer is over, the days are getting shorter and the produce is getting less exciting. For me, the very opposite is true! Although we are already a month into Spring, today was the first truly warm day and my goodness was it beautiful! It just so happened that we had a raw picnic today and I honestly don't think the weather could have been more perfect - it was just phenomenal.
You may or may not remember, a few months back I got a bike with trailer and I have been getting more and more into riding - every Saturday I do a 14km round-trip down to the Organic Growers Market and back, plus I ride just for fun sometimes as well as other general commuting. Anyway, last week I signed up to do The Great Perth Bike Ride, which is a fund-raising ride with a 53km course that you can do once or twice. I'm going to stick with just one lap for my firs time, but I'm super excited! You can check out my web-page here (and you can make a donation there. Go on, please make a donation - it's a great cause!! Well, 3 great causes actually!)
Anyway this does have some relevance to my earlier discussion of today's stunning weather - I reached my maximum ever distance ridden in one day, with approximately 27km (over half the 53km route!) I rode to and from the market this morning, then to and from the picnic. And to be honest, I feel absolutely fine - I could easily have kept going. I don't want to get
Well, I'm sure you've all been reading through this thinking "oh yes, hmm, biuke ride, well that's interesting... WHERE'S THE FOOD?" So without further ado, here is today's picnic food. I'm afraid there aren't that many photos and they aren't that great quality... but it was such a beautiful day, such scrumptious food and such wonderful people, that I simply couldn't spend too much time behind the camera.
The Spread
And again
Karen's Pizza
Meg's incredible Strawberry Shorcake
Rachan creating nori rolls
This was my contribution to the day, a Mulberry Pie (fresh mulberries picked this morning, YUM!) and it was really delicious. IT was also really attractive... before I rode 7km with it in my backpack. But it's not how it looks, it's how it tastes, right!! :-)
Now to move away from picnic food, here is a little mini-pizza I made a few weeks ago (Though I make pretty much identical ones every Friday). Super yum! I AM going to create a little recipe book at some point and both the Mulberry Pie and Pizza recipes will be in there. Oh and I AM going to start posting more frequently, I promise (cross my heart!) Have a great day everyone!

Loved your story of today RVP and thank you so much for sharing it, and your photos, which are better than any I took! My camera was at home LOL
I'd forgotten about your projected loooong bike ride, apologies for not mentioning it to you but all the best.
Heaps of love

Hi Freedom,
I absolutely adore mulberries, and hadn't heard what you pie was. So when I took a bite, I was really delighted! And it was so delicious!
I'd certainly buy a little book/zine if you made one of your recipes. I'm a bit of a zine collector and love vegan ones (esty.com is good for these).
Chat at the next picnic!
Kate
hi princess,
i'm so happy to have found your blog, I'm vegan and although I don't think I'll ever be 100% raw, I'd like to give it a try... do you have any recipes to share?
ciao from Italy
Glad you are posting again. The picnic food all looks great.
I wish I could say I have been as motivated with my bike. Hopefully I will take it out for some fall rides.
MAY MAY! You're on blogger! Awesome! I'm sure the photos you took in your mind are far more stunning than anything I captured on my camera. Don't worry about not mentioning the bike ride, no probs at all! See you soon, I'm sure!
Hugs, Freedom
Hey Kate, I don't know you're surname but I'm assuming it was you who made a donation on my bike ride page - THANKYOU!! :-) I'm so glad you liked the pie, it certainly wasn't much to look at after 7km on the bike but it still tasted good. The recipe book/zine project won't get underway properly until summer holidays I think, but I'll keep you posted!
Welcome tippitappi - what's fruit like in Italy? Is there much variety available? The more raw you eat the better you will feel and it is also AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS! I do have another blog called Freedom's Raw Recipes, the link is in my sidebar somewhere, though I haven't put any new recipes up in quite a while because I'm planning a little recipe book/zine.
Thanks for stopping by!
Hey Jody, I'm glad I'm posting again too, loL! Bike riding is beautiful any time of the year - pull it out and soak up all the beautiful colours of changing leaves etc!
